My name is GK and I work as an art director in the cinema industry. I have been around for nearly twenty years now enjoying my work in the cinema field and have completed over 100 films. Before I start talking about my profession a quick recap of my childhood, college days and early part of my career is essential to understand me and my work.
As a child I was interested in drawing but knew very little of it, it was my elder sister who used to draw all my diagrams and charts when we were at school together. It was from her that I imbibed this skill of drawing, and slowly with her guidance I became quite good at it. I still believe that there is nothing like the good old hand drawing as this is the most natural form of conveying the thoughts that the brain thinks. Even today I greatly rely upon my drawings, so before every movie set that comes up it is conceived by me with my drawing pen on paper. It is this that is translated to the magnificent sets that you see!
Later, I went on to complete my schooling and college and it was at this juncture that a family friend called Netaji introduced me to films. And it was through him that I got my first break in films for my first movie was Janani in the year 1985 by Gemini Productions. However, a turning point in my career came in the way of the movie Inaindha Kaigal, which involved a lot of sets and was a marathon effort. Almost every scene in this movie had a set created for it specially and this won rave reviews and acclaims for me as an art director. Ever since, there has been no looking back and I have been working with many leading actors, directors and producers and been able to churn countless number of movies.
Individuals aspire to have their passion as their profession, but most often they are not lucky. However, in my case with the grace of god I have been extremely lucky as my passion and profession are one. To me art direction is not just a job but it is my first love and will remain the greatest love of my life.
In this portal I have tried to share all my works, experiences, and accolades with you. Hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did while compiling them!
Happy Surfing!
